  • What kind of weather can I expect in Sri Lanka?

    Warm weather! You can always find the current weather here.

  • What is the cost of living in Sri Lanka like?

    Very low by Western European standards. Local food, for example, is available for about 2.00 euros. A bus or train ride costs about 1.00 euro per hour and in more upscale restaurants you dine from about 10.00 to 20.00 euros.

  • Are there any health risks in Sri Lanka that I should be aware of?

    While there are a few things to keep in mind, there are no particular risks or dangers to traveling to Sri Lanka. You can find everything under: Health in Sri Lanka.

    Here you will find the current recommendations of the Tropical Institute for vaccinations.

    We advise you to take out an international health insurance, so that you are covered in case of emergency. In case something happens, the Asiri Hospital Matara is located near the hostel.

  • What about vaccinations?

    The Tropical Institute recommends tetanus, diphtheria, hepatitis A and rabies. You can find more information at tropeninstitut.de.

  • What should I definitely pack?

    Mosquito spray, sunscreen and good mood!

Entry and arrival

  • Do I need a visa to enter the country?

    Yes, tourists must obtain a visa to enter the country. You can either apply online at www.eta.gov.lk or for an additional fee directly at the airport. You can find more information on the website of the German Foreign Office. 

  • How do I get from the airport to the hostel?

    We will be happy to pick you up at Colombo Airport (CMB). Please let us know your arrival time and flight number at least one week in advance so that we can organize your pickup.

Prices and services

  • How much does it cost to stay at drivethru Hostel?

    Depending on the room category, the stay costs from 25€/night, with a minimum stay of two nights. Breakfast included!

  • Can I extend my stay spontaneously on site?

    Yes, of course! As long as there is still space you can extend on site.

  • Do I need to bring a sleeping bag, bedding or towels?

    No. We provide towels and bed linen. Only a beach towel you should bring yourself.

  • What can I experience in the surrounding area?
