FAQ Stay Island
Frequently Asked Questions about the Maldives Stay Island Holiday.
Travel planning
-
When is my trip considered confirmed?
With your booking, you are listed for the Stay Island vacation. Once the minimum number of six participants is reached, you will receive a booking confirmation, and you can proceed to book your flight.
The latest possible booking date is the booking deadline. You can find this date under “Prices and services.”
-
Arrival and Departure Time
The destination airport is Malé International Airport (MLE). We recommend booking accommodation in Malé for the night before check-in at Thimarafushi and on the check-out day. Travel to and from Thimarafushi is possible by speedboat or domestic flight.
Please consult with us BEFORE booking your flight.
-
International Flight
The earlier you book, the cheaper the direct flights to Malé will be. An alternative option could be a detour through Colombo (CMB, Sri Lanka) if you book last minute or if you have extra time for a vacation in Sri Lanka.
-
What does the domestic transfer cost?
A one-way flight from Malé to Thimarafushi currently costs USD 130, with a board bag costing up to USD 160 per way. The flight duration is 50 minutes.
If wave conditions allow for a speedboat transfer, the trip costs USD 80 per way, with a board bag costing USD 35 per way. The speedboat journey takes 4 hours.
-
Entry to the Maldives
A tourist visa for up to 30 days is issued upon arrival. The Traveller Declaration must be completed in advance, but no more than 96 hours before entry: Traveller Declaration
-
Arrival at the Airport
After immigration, a guide from our local partner will meet you and assist with further travel arrangements.
-
Storage for surfboards
Conveniently, there is a luggage counter where you can store your surfboards for a fee of currently USD 13 per day.
-
What should I bring for the vacation?
Basically, bring everything you need for surfing personally, as there is no surf shop on the island. Here’s a list of the main items:
- At least two surfboards, in case one becomes irreparably damaged.
- Surfboard repair kit
- First Aid Kit
- Hat, long-sleeve lycra, leggings
- Sunscreen SPF 50+, surf zinc, vaseline for body rash
- Travel adapter type G
- Hard drive or USB Stick for the videos
-
What additional costs should I expect during the trip?
The waves in Thimarafushi are oriented towards the south and southwest. In the unlikely event that there is no swell from these directions but there is one from the southeast, we will use a speedboat to access surf spots with an eastern orientation. The cost of the speedboat will be shared among all guests, ranging from USD 70 to USD 140 per day per person, depending on the type of speedboat.
Since alcohol consumption is banned in the Maldives, except in holiday resorts and surf safari boats, there are no additional costs for alcohol, as there is no alcohol available for purchase on the island. Importing alcohol is also prohibited.
Gratuity for the staff is included in your trip price. However, if you are particularly pleased with the service, you are welcome to leave an additional tip.

What happens if we are unable to surf for any reason?
In very rare cases, this can happen due to factors such as no waves, extremely large waves, storms, or other unforeseen circumstances. However, we will do our best to get back in the water as soon as possible, provided conditions allow.
