FAQ Boat Trip
Frequently Asked Questions about the Maldives Boat Trip.
Travel planning
-
When is my trip considered confirmed?
With your booking, you are listed for the boat trip. Once the minimum number of eight participants is reached, you will receive a booking confirmation from us, and you can proceed to book your flight.
The latest date to confirm your boat trip is the booking deadline. You can find this date under “Prices and services.”
-
Arrival and Departure
The destination airport is Malé International Airport (MLE), located on Hulhumalé Island. We recommend arriving a day earlier and departing a day later. If you arrive on the same day as our boat departs, choose a flight with a very early arrival time.
If you fly back on the same day our boat arrives, please select a flight with the latest possible departure time.
Please consult with us BEFORE booking your flight.
-
Alternative Flight Route
The earlier you book, the cheaper the direct flights to Malé will be. An alternative option could be a detour through Colombo (CMB, Sri Lanka) if you book last minute or if you have extra time for a vacation in Sri Lanka.
-
Entry to the Maldives
A tourist visa for up to 30 days is issued upon arrival. The Traveller Declaration must be completed in advance, but no more than 96 hours before entry: Traveller Declaration
-
Arrival at the Airport
After immigration, a guide from our local partner will meet you.
If you arrive on the same day as the boat check-in, you will be taken to the boat with the entire group at 12:00 PM.
-
Departure from the Airport
Before your return flight, we will arrive back in Hulhumalé. We recommend storing your surf bag at the baggage counter for a fee of currently USD 13 per day. For less than USD 1, a local ferry runs every 15 minutes from Hulhumalé to Malé.

What should I bring for the boat trip?
Everything you need personally for surfing, as we will be staying on the boat and surfing at remote atolls. Here’s a list of the main items:
- At least two surfboards, in case one becomes irreparably damaged.
- Surfboard repair kit
- First Aid Kit
- Hat, long-sleeve lycra, leggings
- Sunscreen SPF 50+, surf zinc, vaseline for body rash
- Travel adapter type G
- Hard drive or USB Stick for the videos & pictures
-
What additional costs should I expect during the trip?
Alcoholic beverages and soft drinks are not included. A can of beer costs around USD 6.50. Alcohol consumption is prohibited in the Maldives, except in holiday resorts and surf safari boats. Importing alcohol is also forbidden.
Gratuity for the boat crew is included in your trip price. However, if you are particularly pleased with the on-board service, you are welcome to leave an additional tip.
The boat offers limited WiFi (no flat rate). Data packages can be purchased at the airport starting from USD 30.
Surfing & Surfcoaching
-
What surf level is required for the trip?
In our surf camps, we differentiate between Beginner, Beginner+, Intermediate, Intermediate+, and Advanced levels. You can find a detailed overview here:
We expect an advanced Intermediate level, or ideally an Intermediate+ level. A homogeneous group facilitates planning, spot selection, and surf coaching.
If you have a lower surf level but are eager to join a surf safari, please contact us.
-
Where are we going?
On all our trips, the Central Atolls are planned as potential destinations, as the longer travel distance typically means less crowded line-ups. The trip itinerary is planned daily based on the current wave and wind conditions on site.
-
How many days of surf coaching are included?
There is no surf coaching on the arrival and departure days. Additionally, there is one free day, which can still be used for free surfing. Surf guiding is provided daily, and we film the entire group for 7 days.
-
What does the surf coaching include?
In total, there are two surf instructors and one local surf guide on the boat. The coaching includes film and video analysis sessions, as well as surf guiding in the water.

What happens if we are unable to surf for any reason?
In very rare cases, this can happen due to factors such as no waves, extremely large waves, storms, or other unforeseen circumstances. However, we will do our best to get back in the water as soon as possible, provided conditions allow.
