Surfboard Quiver

Our surfboard quiver in Sri Lanka

The agony of choice: This surfboard quiver awaits you at drivethru in Sri Lanka

At drivethru in Sri Lanka we have the right board for every surf level. In this article we give you a first overview of our surfboard quiver on site.

When in 2013 the idea of opening a surf camp slowly became reality, we asked ourselves which surfboards we wanted to offer our guests. In the process, we quickly agreed:

We want the best possible material – whatever the cost!

Fate meant well with us and our courageous wish was finally granted. During one of our next visits to the Cologne surf store Frittboards, we met Martin and Bert, the brains behind the brand Sunova Surfboards. The design as well as the quality and construction of the boards caught our eye and convinced us directly. Since this meeting the teams of drivethru and Sunova have become real friends besides the business partnership. Mutual visits to Thailand, Sri Lanka, Denmark or the Ruhr area are the rule and are always used to introduce new shapes or to spin ideas together.

Sunova’s shaper and co-founder Bert Burger is no stranger to the world of surfing. In 2007 he was voted Shaper of the Year. Bert is THE man we have to thank for the parabolic rail construction, as well as the technology of the Firewire surfboards. Thanks mate!

The special thing about the Sunova boards is the extremely light and at the same time very robust construction and the already mentioned parabolic rails. What is meant by this and what advantages they bring with them, you can best be explained by Bert personally. Clear the stage!

No matter what kind of wave you surf, how big or heavy you are, what kind of surfing style you have or how high your surfing level is:

We have the right board for you!

Our hardboards from Sunova Surfboards

Evolve

The EVOLVE was developed together by Bert Burger and Alex especially for us. The goal was to design a board that you can surf without problems as the first hardboard, after you have learned the basics on a softboard. With plenty of nose and tail area it is very fast and stable and therefore the wave yield is extremely high. Thanks to a lot of volume from the nose to the tail, you can land on the wrong spot during take off and it still runs. Our drivethru guests and we love it!

Maneuvers the EVOLVE does best:

Catching waves and overcoming sections

Available in the following dimensions:

6’6″ x 21 1/2″ x 2 11/16″ @ 41.6l

7’0″ x 22″ x 2 11/16″ @ 45.8l

7’6″ x 22 7/16″ x 2 11/16″ @ 50.1l

8’0″ x 22 9/16″ x 2 7/8″ @ 57.3l

Dynamo

The DYNAMO is a hybrid of longboard and shortboard and thus a very versatile board. It has a performance shortboard rocker, which allows radical and very vertical surfing over the tail. Attacking white water, for example in the roundhouse cutback, succeeds effortlessly with this board thanks to its wide nose. Because the nose is more like a shovel, with which even Noserides are possible – if you can 😉

Maneuvers that the DYNAMO does best:

Clean roundhouse cutbacks, carves and sections overcome.

Available from us in the following dimensions:

5’10“ x 19 3/16″ x 2 5/16″ @ 27.9l

6’0″ x 19 11/16″ x 2 5/16″ @ 29.7l

6’2″ x 20 1/4″ x 2 3/8″ @ 32.2l

6’4″ x 20 13/16″ x 2 7/16″ @ 34.9l

6’6″ x 21 3/8″ x 2 1/2″ @ 37.7l

7’0″ x 23″ x 2 11/16″ @ 47.1l

Boss

The BOSS is designed to be a board that works for any surfer in all wave conditions. Paddle power gets the BOSS thanks to a healthy amount of volume and sliding surface. Thanks to its large rocker remains extremely good maneuverability. Our conclusion: A very good beginner shortboard!

Maneuvers the BOSS does best:

Clean roundhouse cutbacks and floaters.

Available from us in the following dimensions:

5’8″ x 18 13/16″ x 2 1/2″ @ 27.8l

6’2″ x 20 7/16″ x 2 5/8″ @ 34.0l

6’4″ x 21″ x 2 11/16″ @ 36.8l

SX01

The SX01 is the ultimate high performance machine for small waves. The tail rocker is built like a standard high performance shortboard. The nose rocker is slightly flattened to glide into the wave with plenty of speed. A generous curved outline combined with sharp rails and enough tail area make for fast, tight and powerful turns in waist to one and a half head high waves.

Maneuvers that the SX01 does best:

Vertical re-entries, powerful snaps in the pocket and general high performance surfing.

Available from us in the following dimensions:

6’2″ x 20 1/8″ x 2 5/8″ @ 32.3l

6’4″ x 20 11/16″ x 2 11/16″ @ 34.9l

Soul

The SOUL is an absolute quiver killer! If you just want a board that can cover a wide range of wave conditions, the SOUL is the board for you. With the 4+1 fin setup, you can even completely change the riding style of the board at any time: If you want to cruise more comfortably, put in a single fin. If you want to race along the wave wall with a lot of grip, choose the Quad Setup function.

Maneuvers the SOUL does best:

Solid bottom turns, easy surfing and catching waves 😉

Available from us in the following dimensions:

6’2″ x 21 7/16″ x 2 3/4″ @ 37.6l

Moonfish

With the MOONFISH you are the king in the line up. With this board you simply get every wave! Due to its high speed, flat sections as well as floaters and foam climbs are no longer a problem. A fish that even performance shortboarders love!

Maneuvers the MOONFISH does best:

Re-Entries and Tail Slides

Available in the following dimensions:

5’8″ x 20 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ @ 31.0l (Thruster Setup)

5’10“ x 21 1/16″ x 2 9/16″ @ 33.8l (Thruster Setup)

Torpedo

The TORPEDO is a board for small waves that practically allows you to surf almost non-existent waves. It’s a versatile board, catches any wave, but doesn’t feel bulky or heavy at all. On the contrary, the board always feels loose and fun.

Maneuvers that the TORPEDO does best:

Power carves and cutbacks.

Available from us in the following dimensions:

5’4″ x 20 1/8″ x 2 9/16″ @ 30.6l (Quad Setup)

Flybird

The FLYBIRD – probably the most fun board in small waves! As the name suggests, the FLYBIRD lets you fly like a bird over the smallest waves. A board that will remind you strongly of skateboarding in a wave. If your standard shortboard is somewhere between 6’0″ to 6’2″ in length, the FLYBIRD is best surfed at around 5’2″, which is „mega short“.

Maneuvers the FLYBIRD does best:

360’s, tail slides and nose first landings.

Available from us in the following dimensions:

5’2″ x 21″ x 2 1/2″ @ 31.1l

Chunker

The CHUNKER flies with its flat rocker over even the softest waves. A slightly smaller tail area with hard rails still provides enough bite and liveliness.

Maneuvers that the CHUNKER does best:

Speed, clean roundhouse cutbacks and floaters.

Available in the following dimensions:

6’2“ x 21 1/8“ x 2 5/8“ @ 35,3l

6’4“ x 21 11/16“ x 2 11/16“ @ 38,3l

Hangman

The HANGMAN design was developed by Bert specifically for his own needs: A performance longboard that gives you every possible assistance to make noserides with it. Experienced surfers will have a lot of fun with the large, stable noseride platform and the adequate nose and tail rocker.

Maneuvers that the HANGMAN does best:

All-round performance paired with noserides.

Available in the following dimensions:

9’6″ x 23 3/4″ x 2 7/8″ @ 68.6l (2+1 Setup)

Longboard Pro

The LONGBOARD PRO was developed for one reason only: Catch waves on small days and still perform when it gets bigger. The combination of high performance thruster setup and super light balsa flex construction make the PRO extremely lively and loose. No one would have thought a longboard could be surfed so radically.

Maneuvers the LONGBOARD PRO does best:

All-round performance paired with vertical surfing.

Available from us in the following dimensions:

9’2″ x 22 7/8″ x 2 11/16″ @ 60.5l

ES

The ES is a longboard for rather petite people. The proportions are similar to a standard longboard, but on this board all dimensions were kept slightly smaller.

Maneuvers that the ES can do best:

Longboarding for petite people

Available from us in the following dimensions:

8’2″ x 20 1/2“ x 2 7/8“

Our softboards from Elephant Surfboards

The days of the heavy, unwieldy „rubber sow“ are definitely a thing of the past! Thanks to technical progress and creative softboard manufacturers!

A few years ago, softboards were still frowned upon by many surfers: „Those aren’t real surfboards!“ In the meantime, however, they have fortunately gained acceptance among beginners and are nowadays accepted and gladly taken by the broad masses. Even advanced surfers and pros love softboards to be able to deliver high performance surfing, if possible once extremely much volume is required in the board due to waves.

Especially in the beginning you have a lot of advantages with a softboard! Only when you can safely surf parallel, want to ride more radical lines in the wave and want your board to react more directly, it is worth switching to a hardboard. Before that, softboards are the right choice for you!

Also when choosing our softboards it was very important for us to offer our guests high quality and extra light boards. The boards from ELEPHANT Surfboards meet all these criteria! They are light, glide extremely well, work great both in white water and in the green still unbroken wave and are also very well made.

Everything you need to have as much fun in the water as possible!

These board sizes are waiting for you at drivethru:

7’0“ // 7’3“ // 8’0“ // 8’3“ // 8’6“ // 9’0“
